Runners
Ro Tain
Aemon Burst
Toast
Senk Gethin
Aomame 2-Chrome
On behalf of Creech, the Evo-seeming fellow who hired them, the team re-enters the MCZ, none too excited at the prospect. Ro splits off to distract the infected piasma, while the team does the gig. They also hire on Jane for her first proper run, after promising Smedley Pembrenton III to keep her safe-ish. They reach the destination without much trouble, it seems that most of the infected have packed up, so they stick to the picked-over areas and avoid them.
They find that the target building is a small house, suspiciously the only non-looted structure on it’s block. Based on their investigations, they determine that there are likely still active defenses (drone or human), and there are a huge number of sensors mounted on the house exterior (though somewhat disguised). They start surrounding the house, and Aemon and Toast come under fire. The team responds in kind, and Senk blows open the front door. Senk and Aemon dive through just before security shutters slam down over all the house’s portals. Toast and 2Chrome head to the roof to try to find a way in.
Toast lights the roof on fire, planning to wait for it to burn enough that he can jump through. 2Chrome starts prepping a desperate escape, as the house is rapidly becoming surrounded by shamblers attracted by the gunfire and explosions. Aemon and Senk get in a firefight inside while Jane ducks and covers. They take out 2 guards before 2 more retreat to the house’s basement while laying down suppression with rifles and grenades. Senk finds a vault in the basement, as well as a few months of supplies, which seems to have been used at about the expected rate. Toast finally smashes through the roof, and crashes down into the kitchen, taking some damage, but manages to catch 2C as she follows, landing on his debris pile.
Senk starts rigging a charge for the vault door as Jane takes over the sensor systems to prevent the guards inside knowing. However, 2C manages to convince them to hand over the data they seek in exchange for an escort to the wall, along with backing up the guard’s story that their facility got overrun. They don’t seem happy about having gotten stuck in here, and although they seem on guard, Jane confirms that they seem to have handed over the correct data at least. The site’s spider, Hans Yolo sets off some exterior noisemakers to attract the shambler horde to one side of the house, while opening a security shutter on the far side for the team to sneak out.
They make haste for the wall, and manage to take down the pack of ragers they encounter without attracting more. They reach the Knight Errant quarantine cordon, and start to enter, when they 2 remaining security from the site (who seem to be NeoNET affiliated), report that the runners are in possession of stolen NN data. Yolo seems to feel bad about the whole exchange at least. 2C manages to stop Aemon from getting them all in a sure-to-lose gunfight, and gets the guards to go easy on them once they hand over the data. Jane tells them it’s no problem, and indeed once they clear quarantine, she manages to retrieve her copy, seemingly using a sprite she had compiled for the task.
She tells them it seems to be project data about a few of the secret projects they uncovered during the Gilgamesh Initiative raid. It also confirms that NN, Evo, and Aztechnology were indeed all involved in Project Vulcan, which seems to have originated in NN and Evo’s in-house e-ghost investigation secret projects. They pass along the data to Creech, who seems a bit off, and stock up on supplies. They also get the rundown on the latest in the Leather District from Smedley.
Bozeman has vanished, after coming under some suspicion of involvement in the ongoing sabotage (Smedley doesn’t think it was him though…). There was also an assault by a well-armed hit squad of some sort with an unknown goal, but Buster’s increasingly pro militia managed to fight them off once they were discovered. 2C worries these might be bounty hunters on her tail. The Neutral Ground board has been updated a bit too: apparently someone gained control of the crystalline entity, and used it to take out some French Gendarmes, as well as the bodyguard Barzhin, at an Ares training facility. This was also where Ares was supposedly testing their weaponized CFD program, according to the GI files. Worrying, as all signs point to The Black Lodge as the culprits…
Yolo contacts them and apologizes for the betrayal- he says he didn’t know it was coming, and that he bailed on the guards soon after, worried that he might “know too much” for the corp to let him live at this point. He tells them that the ritual conducted at the pyramid building was apparently tied to something going on in a secret facility under Northeastern University, and that the guard leader had him scrub that data before he handed stuff over to the team. Toast also gets a message with an address from Velenthial, but gets spooked when he goes to check it out and doesn’t go in, deciding to wait for backup. Worried at Ro’s continued absence, and with another few job offers, the team decides (semi-willingly) to head back into the MCZ. An Aztlaner with an odd giggle and a Japanese Oni hire them to plant some data on a server in a KE substation, and Smedley needs them to deliver some supplies. They gear up, and head out to pick up the supplies from Smedley’s contact….
