The Dark Realm is the afterlife in Zuberi’s tribe’s religion. This religion holds that one day, a chosen child will be born to send all life to the Dark Realm. Zuberi is that child.

As it turns out, the Dark Realm is actually a slaughter-aspected metaplane (or a small pocket of one, anyway), and all the beings sent there by the Dark Ritual are feeding a massively powerful free spirit, who Zuberi’s ancestors made a pact with to preserve them from the VITAS II plague.

The Astral Space Preservation Society, as well as the Dunkelzahn Institute for Magical Research and The Draco Foundation, have all become interested in severing this tie, and eliminating the spirit, after Lodestone shared all of this info with Ehran the Scribe.
