The team is hired by a man named Laurent Nazaire to look into a matter involving a friend of his. They are to investigate an Illuminates of the New Dawn secret chapterhouse in the wilds outside of Seattle. Clippy borrows money from his dad to buy a firearms knowsoft to make himself seem more capable. They fight some powerful and disturbing beast spirits on the way in, but manage to hold them off. Clippy decides to spend some time at the range soon to boost his actual skills…
They arrive to find the building destroyed, and currently being scavenged by a small-time local wiz-gang called The Spectres. They manage to make a deal with them to let them take whatever they’ve already found, and have Clippy help them with some future work. They search the building, find the info Nazaire wanted, and get it to him- it seems to deal with some secret project the IOND have going, tracking some unnamed individuals around the area, as well as some recruiting and accounting info.
Nazaire calls them again a few days later after they’ve finished healing, and they meet him at an abandoned church, where they are introduced to his friend, Elizabeth Nunn. Some of them think she is a vampire at first, but can’t get a read on the astral, and she seems really nice and cool, so they let it go. The 2 of them want to hire the team for more work going after the IOND. The team agrees, and heads out to try to capture the chapter head Magister Tyrone Girardi, who seems to have escaped the destruction of the previous chapterhouse.
They raid an IOND safehouse in an abandoned hotel, and manage to overcome the various magical traps (as well as some sort of terrible roaming bio-experiments) in the basement. The find a promising sewer exit in the basement, and hear some distant sounds as if their quarry may be nearby….. Twitch calls Butch, and tells her about the experiments- she seems interested. Achilles (fairly injured from the fight with the experiments) volunteers to stay behind in order to fend off an more IOND mages, experiments or traps that happen to show up/go off. However, before they can chase them members into the sewers, they encounter Garth, who was apparently abducted by the IOND for their experiments while in town on a security gig. They free him, and he gears up to join them in their pursuit.
They fend off a basilisk, before Bug and Garth tagteam the sewer navigation and tracking to catch up to the IOND rearguard. They manage to take them out, taking some heavy spell damage in the process. Clippy pulls their destination from one of their comms, and they head there, finding another safehouse in a much nicer neighborhood. Teams of mages are loading large panel trucks while some well-equipped guards stand watch. Twitch, Bug, and Shri slip around back while Clippy hacks the house node. Garth decides to act as a distraction but accidentally gets spotted early- he gets in a brutal gunfight with security but is quickly ko’ed. The mages start pulling some memories from his brain, and take a ritual sample.
Meanwhile, the back team has gained access and snuck partway around the house before getting spotted, while Clippy has engaged in matrix combat with the IC onsite before rebooting the node. Having lost comms, and detecting intruders on the lot, the IOND head Magister Tamara Plinick, calls a retreat. The mages and guards bail in the trucks, after fireballing the house and leaving a large mana barrier to obstruct the team. Clippy manages to get an ID on the trucks as they leave, but they are running dark so he isn’t able to track them.
Achilles rejoins them, and they haul Garth into the sewers. They make their escape due to Bug’s amazing tracking, only having to pause briefly for him to take a stimpatch after passing out. They exfiltrate through the old hotel, meet up with Nunn and Nazaire after leaving Garth at the safehouse to get healed up by Caria Alten. They get paid, though Nunn is disappointed that they didn’t find more info on Girardi. She also seems horrified about the tests they were doing, and says she will go tend to the subjects (assuming *Butch *hasn’t gotten there first!).
A few days later, they pair hire the team again to follow Girardi to Montreal, where he has retreated to a safer facility. They will fly there with a coyote named Wild Willy, and leave the next night. They are to return with Girardi alive, and provide frequent updates, as Nunn will not be accompanying them. The team agrees.
